1.BUCKWHEAT PANCAKE
Buckwheat pancakes have been used by the Rajas and Kings as organic food in Baltistan. It provides purity and true organic essence. It is unique in taste and easy to digest. In local adage it is famous that " even if someone consumes 100 buckwheat pancakes, it will do no harm and digestion will be smooth. Buckwheat flour is a gluten-free flour that is rich in fiber, protein, and nutrients. This flour is made from the seeds of the buckwheat plant, which is different in comparison to wheat.

It is also pertinent to mention that buckwheat Pancake is taken with "Balti Tea". Balti Tea envisage Salt, butter, milk and water boiled to a considerable degree. It is then added with green tea leaves which change its color to pink. A normal person consumes 50 cups of tea per day in remote villages of Baltistan. It is regarded as contempt to traditions if someone takes only one cup.

2. ZAAN-MURZUN
Zaan is balti word signifying simplicity and tasteless. As evident, Zaan comprises of barley flour mixed with water and cooked till it solidifies appropriately. Zaan is also prime factor in longevity and anti ageing characteristics of Baltis. A sixty year in actual would appear as 30 yrs young.

Zaan is taken with pure almond oil which is heated and placed in mid of Zaan. One dish of Zaan is shared between 3-4 people depending upon the size of utensil.
3. MANTU
Mantu is historically a dish originated in Kashgar, China. However the fusion of Kashgaris with Baltis resulted in adoption of this delicacy by Balti culture. Dough made from wheat flour, egg and baking powder is processed into small pocket like structures. These are filled with a mixture of onion, minced beef with special portion of fat and black pepper as per taste. The packages are then steamed for half an hour in specific pots. Emergence of fragrance is a sign of readiness for Mantu. Family members compete with each other in effort to be the first to announce the fragrance.

4. PRAPPU WITH MOSKUTU
Prappu is another traditional dish in Baltistan. Prappu is made from barley or wheat. Peculiar feature of Prappu is its hand crafted shape which resembles that of a miniature submarine. Prappu is splashed with moskut. Moskut reflects the spicy chutney made of mint mixed with green chillies in yogurt.

5.Apricot SoUP (PHARRENGI BALEY)
Baltistan is blessed with more than 30 types of juicy apricots. The dried apricots are used to make Apricot Soup. Raw drying methodology results in organic product which is boiled in water without sugar. The mixture is then served as apricot soup.

The seeds of each apricot is carefully guarded by each occupant. Traditionally elderly women of the family is entrusted to break the seeds and serve the nut. Nut gives immense power and energy after consumption of soup.
